A chit's yearly list of nonsense

Arsenic and Old Lace

This has long been one of my favorite movies. Arsenic and Old Lace the 1944 film was based on the 1939 play. Frank Capra put together a stellar cast and it is the perfect antidote to a dull day.

The Plot

Mortimer loves Elaine and despite his reservations they get married on Halloween. Before they leave for their Niagara Falls honeymoon they stop at his aunt’s house where things quickly spiral out of control.

Dead bodies, trumpet-blowing Presidents and sweet little old ladies with a macabre charity become more than poor Mortimer expected on his wedding day.

Serial killers, writers, and elderberry wine swirl around and around until the entire cast belongs in the Happy Dale asylum.

The whole movie takes place in one fast-paced night. If you’re going to watch this movie be ready for some of Cary Grant’s funniest facial expressions. The whole cast; from the cab driver to Dr. Einstein are top notch.
