A chit's yearly list of nonsense

Hanging Rock State Park

On vacation I got to visit one of my favorite state parks, Hanging Rock. Up in Stokes county where I lived for a brief time in my childhood I even remember one interesting hiking field trip with my elemantary school. It is one of my favorite places because as a child and then periodically throughout the years I’ve gone with family to the awe inspiring state park. Something about the woods, the waterfalls, and magestic views makes you stop and marvel at the world. Rarely, have I left without a smile on my face.

See yesterday’s Before/After post about this picture.

It is the first park I went to since turning 31 and is number one on my 31 parks and sundry list. If you ever visit North Carolina or even Virgina this park which has rock climbing, trails from easy to strenous, swimming, camping, and more (like a place to try and spot the rare Wehrle’s salamander) it is a must see.

Visit www.ncparks.gov where I believe you can download an app for all the state park’s maps. Or check in at the visitor center to get more information and a trail map.

I can only remember doing 4 (though each more than once) of it’s 17 trails so perhaps next time I’ll try another but either way it is one place I never tire of.

What is your favorite park?

  1. It’s beautiful! We have lots of state parks here in Utah. They are all so beautiful. But my favorite place is actually just a few miles up the canyon in the mountains above my home. That’s where I spent so much of my childhood and I love going up there. Thanks for reminding me of it; I’ll have to head up there soon.

Happy Sharefest. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  2. I love hiking and I hike through Hanging Rock park in Virginia! Hiking is such good exercise and really gives you a sense of the environment you live in…..

  3. Sorry I lost a bunch of replies and comments- not really sure what I did :(! But wanted to thank y’all for your comments!

It’s a little too cold to go hiking now (at least for me) but now I can’t wait for spring.
