On vacation I got to visit one of my favorite state parks, Hanging Rock. Up in Stokes county where I lived for a brief time in my childhood I even remember one interesting hiking field trip with my elemantary school. It is one of my favorite places because as a child and then periodically throughout the years I’ve gone with family to the awe inspiring state park. Something about the woods, the waterfalls, and magestic views makes you stop and marvel at the world. Rarely, have I left without a smile on my face.
See yesterday’s Before/After post about this picture.
It is the first park I went to since turning 31 and is number one on my 31 parks and sundry list. If you ever visit North Carolina or even Virgina this park which has rock climbing, trails from easy to strenous, swimming, camping, and more (like a place to try and spot the rare Wehrle’s salamander) it is a must see.
Visit www.ncparks.gov where I believe you can download an app for all the state park’s maps. Or check in at the visitor center to get more information and a trail map.
I can only remember doing 4 (though each more than once) of it’s 17 trails so perhaps next time I’ll try another but either way it is one place I never tire of.
What is your favorite park?
